About AccessAble

AccessAble aims to remove the uncertainty of going out by providing disabled people with the detailed information they need to determine if a place is accessible for them.

Our team of highly trained surveyors visit venues to gather the information used to create our Detailed Access Guides.

After much research and trying different approaches, we discovered Gallio PRO and were impressed with the ease of use, speed, and accuracy.

These allow people to decide if a venue is right for them. Each Detailed Access Guide is 100% facts, figures and photographs. There is lots of information as we know that everyone needs to know something different, and the photographs help to tell the story, showing visitors what they can expect to find at a venue.

Working alongside over 100 different disability groups our first website was launched in 2002. Since then, the organisation has grown and developed, continually meeting and listening to its user community.

The value

Today, AccessAble.co.uk is used by over 6 million people each year. Working across a variety of sectors including health, education, retail, tourism, and local authorities, our surveyors take hundreds of photographs in public settings every week. Having recently upgraded our website to allow visitors to see full-screen images of the venues we surveyed, we realised that we would need to take steps to protect the identities of passersby and users of the venues we have surveyed.

Initially, this meant manually anonymising faces and car registration plates in all of our photographs – a time-intensive process requiring the use of professional image editing software. After much research and trying different approaches, we discovered Gallio PRO and were impressed with the ease of use, speed, and accuracy. Instead of having to train 50+ members of staff how to use photo editing software, we are now able to build a process which allows a smaller team to quickly and efficiently batch-process hundreds of images at a time, sending the results back to the surveyor and allowing them to complete their work more quickly.

The results on our Detailed Access Guides look professional and allow us to provide a more visually appealing user experience, whilst being confident that we can maintain the privacy of members of the public. Gallio PRO has not only helped us deliver an enhanced product, but it has also enabled us to save time and resources which can be deployed to visit more venues and gather more data to produce more Detailed Access Guides for our users.
